Why We Don't Teach Tithing

Many churches teach that tithing (giving 10% of your income to the church) is a right, biblical, and necessary spiritual practice. But as we look at the Scriptures, we see that the Bible actually teaches a better way. We do not want anyone in our church to give because of a sense of compulsion or feelings of guilt or shame. Instead, our congregation is free to give as they desire. The below video teaching will show you why.

How we practice generosity

At Roots Church, generosity is a way of life. Our giving multiplies God's kingdom, saves lives, spreads the gospel, and transforms the world. One of the core Scriptures of our fellowship is Galatians 2:20, which says that we no longer live but now Christ lives in us. Generosity is part of Jesus's nature, and therefore it is part of our nature as new creations in Christ Jesus. Your regular giving is changing lives and working miracles. Thank you!

how we manage god's money

The house churches in our network are known for their generosity. When someone makes a need known, their close-knit spiritual family regularly bands together to help out. Similarly, our individual house churches support missionaries, both domestic and abroad, who are faithfully spreading the gospel to those who need to hear and experience the good news about Jesus.

We also give to support our larger organization. Our Board oversees appropriate budgeting for staff salaries; outreach; ministry expenses; caring for widows, orphans, and single parents; new ministry projects; missionary support; and small stipends for our many house church pastors and children's ministers every month. Since we have chosen not to own a big building, essentially all the money goes directly into fueling ministry and caring for ministers and their families.

Your generosity makes more ministry possible and ensures people are being properly compensated for their loving service to both the church and the community. We're so happy to have you on our team to make such a powerful difference.
